PostSubject: Mario Kart   Sun Aug 14, 2011 4:18 pm

Mario Kart is a series of go-kart-style racing video games developed by Nintendo as a series of spin-offs from its trademark Mario series of platformer adventure-style video games. The series debuted in 1992 on the Super NES with critical and commercial success.
To date, there have been four Mario Kart games for home consoles, two portable games, and two Namco co-developed arcade games. The seventh game of the Mario Kart series on Nintendo systems will be Mario Kart 7 for the Nintendo 3DS portable.

In the Mario Kart series of video games, also known as MK, various characters from the Mario universe race on a variety of Mario-themed tracks using humorously-themed go-karts and, in the case of the Wii version, motorcycles. Players obtain various power-up items by driving into (or over in Super Mario Kart) item boxes or coins, which can be used for either offensive or defensive attacks, or to power up the player's vehicle for a brief burst of speed. Each Mario Kart game features several gameplay options, which can be played in both single and multiplayer mode.

The games are as follows:

  1. Super Mario Kart — Super Nintendo Entertainment System, 1992 and 1993. Also available on Virtual Console since 2009 and 2010
  2. Mario Kart 64 — Nintendo 64, 1996 and 1997. Also available on Virtual Console since 2007.
  3. Mario Kart: Super Circuit — Game Boy Advance, 2001. Available on 3DS Virtual Console for Nintendo Ambassadors only, to be released this year.
  4. Mario Kart: Double Dash!! — Nintendo GameCube, 2003.
  5. Mario Kart DS — Nintendo DS, 2005.
  6. Mario Kart Wii — Wii, 2008.
  7. Mario Kart 7 — Nintendo 3DS, 2011.

As well as the Arcade games, consisting of:

  • Mario Kart Arcade GP — Arcade, 2005.
  • Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 — Arcade, 2007.

Alright, discuss.

EDIT: We now have a Mario Kart 7 community! Come race with us! Community Code is 51-8445-5122-9428

Yeah, Mario Kart 64 is one of my favorite racing games. Though i think the series has gone downhill from there. I'm not exactlly sure what it is, but something just annoys me about the newer games.

I like this game series, I remember that when it was mine or some friend's birthday, we had a mario kart 64 and Tekken 3 tournaments.
Good times.

My dad( who is a huge fan of games such as Gran Turismo) usually played Mario Kart Wii online when he had nothing to do.

Ah, Mario Kart. I first played it year before last, Mario Kart Wii. Then I took a *slight* step back in time and bought the original SNES version of it on the Wii's VC. Great game, is that. I plan to get the 3DS version when it comes out.

Calling Mario Kart DS the best game ever is certainly going out on a limb. It is definitely a good game though.

The best of the Mario Kart series was the original IMO. I hated the constant picking up of weapons and items in the recent ones, it turned the race a lot of times into luck, especially the blue shell. I also liked the SNES version's driving model, which the DS is very close to.
